Important Vocabulary
Reconstruction: It was a period of time when the nation were reconstructing after the Civil War, and trying to decide if the nation should allow the Southern States to join back to the nation.
Impeach: Is to send someone off something. For example the President only served for 3 years but he was impeached.
13th Amendment: This was an amendment that got the freedom to all slaves in United States.
14th Amendment: It gave citizenship to every citizens in United States.
15th Amendment: it gave to right to all blacks to vote.
Jim Crow laws: they were racial segregation state and local law after the Reconstruction period that says all men are equal

Facts: 1. They were mostly ex-slaves 2. the Emancipation Proclamation freed the slaves in most areas of the South. 3. The Union promised “40 acres and a mule” to the freedmen Quote:" now, as a freeman i could do anything like voting , but as ex-slave i still have problems with the ex-Confederate Soldiers and i am having a tough time trying to survive." |
Women
Facts: 1. regardless of race were all found in the same position as the war began. 2. Most of the adults left behind were young and middle-aged women. 3. Didn't have the right to vote Quote: " i am a weak woman, without a man. I have to work at the fields, sewing, cooking, binding, shucking and loading grain for what seemed an eternity. The war is coming to an end, but i am afraid that my man might not come back and instead he will have the work the land.i am still waiting for my right to vote, it seems really unfair that men can vote and the women can't." |
